Set in a quaint cottage in the quiet outer-city suburb of Kedron, Nana and Da’s is cosy space serving up tasty, homestyle food with a modern twist.
Nana and Da’s has an inviting atmosphere and a bright, homey interior, with the cafe serving all-day breakfast, lunch and now wholesome takeaway dinners on Fridays. For those with a sweet tooth, the front cabinet abounds with scrummy treats, including gluten free options.
For breakfast, the cafe delights customers with a short but sweet menu — with most items having vegan and gluten free options. Breakfast items include Rhubarb Porridge with local honey, coconut and macadamia crumble; Thyme garlic mushrooms on rye with haloumi and spinach; Sweet Corn and chilli fritters with chorizo, hummus, tomato and basil salsa; and Eggs your way on sourdough.
This morning we went for the Avocado on Sourdough and Potato + Mozzarella Hash w/ poached eggs. With a side of nice strong coffee and a soy chai tea.
The Avocado on Sourdough was a refreshing twist on the classic, served with mushrooms and a fresh side of sauteed zucchini ribbons, toasted hazelnuts, lemon balm and hazelnut oil. The perfectly ripe avocado paired beautifully with the zucchini mix and crusty sourdough. I feel the addition of fresh cherry tomatoes and more lemon zest would have intensified the lovely flavours of the dish even more so.
The Potato + Mozzarella Hash with lemon and dill labna, tomato relish, bacon, spinach and poached egg was delicious. Each flavour was distinct and melded with each other to create a well-balanced, wholesome dish. The hash itself was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, and worked well with the creamy, flavourful labna and slightly tangy tomato relish.
With its charming interior, friendly staff and delicious comfort food, Nana and Da’s is a welcoming retreat from the busy city.
